Section outline

  • Part of our Teacher training programs, this course offers an unusual take on learning the Moodle LMS.

    Mont Blanc

You'll be exploring the standard features of the Moodle LMS as a student while planning a trip to Mont Blanc.

You don't need to know anything about climbing to do this course - but you need to want to learn how to use Moodle as a student to help you use it as a lecturer!

Once you've explored it, why not recreate the activities in our Moodle Practice (LMS training 02) sandbox?

    • A place for announcements. You'll be automatically subscribed to this but you can't reply. It has a related block in the right side drawer.
    • Each week we'll be having a discussion on a different mountaineering issue. Feel free to add your thoughts.

This is a discussion forum where anyone can start and reply to a discussion.

    • In the autumn, following our successful - we hope! - ascent of Mont Blanc, we plan to tackle another Alpine challenge. Exercise your democratic right to choose by selecting your preferred climb below - the most popular one will be the one we do!

This is a Choice activity, allowing voting.

    • This is a Page activity, where text or media can be added. This page displays a very short youtube video showing you the summit of Mont Blanc

    • This Text and Media area allows you to add varied content such as this audio interview with Steve, experienced alpinist, talking about the risks and considerations when climbing Mont Blanc

    • Videos may be uploaded either as a file resource or embedded using the Moodle media icon. This is a file resource, an mp4video of a  beginners' Lakeland climbing expedition, uploaded with the permission  of the climbers.

    • This is  a URL resource, the Wikipedia entry about Mont Blanc

    •  This is a file resource, a list in pdf format of mountaineering equipment (courtesy of ontopmountaineering)

    • This is a folder of Word documents and Powerpoints to supplement your studies.

    • This is an Assignment where you can either type online or submit a file.

Write a minimum of 500 words on what you would need to take into consideration if you were to spend a night in the Alps. Justify your choices.

    • This is a Quiz with a variety of questions to test your knowledge of Alpine mountaineering. At the end of the quiz you will be given your score with suggestions for improvement.

    • This is an (advanced) peer-assesment activity called Workshop. It will allow you to assess your climbing partners' proficiency, safety and reliability on the Mountains.
