TEL - Technology Enhanced Learning
According to V. Devedžić (from Faculty of Organizational Sciences, Belgrade), the term "Technology Enhanced Learning" today includes "all forms of learning and teaching, where ... information and communication systems are used as a medium for the implementation of the learning process" in terms of "transfer of knowledge and skills in educational institutions, the workplace, and in the process of lifelong learning, through a virtual classroom, a variety of Web services, and digital collaboration."
L. Price and A. Kirkwood (from The Institute of Educational Technology The Open University, UK) indicate that unlike other terms such as e-Learning or on-line learning, technology enhanced learning implies a value judgement: the word 'enhancement' suggests an improvement or betterment some way. However, it is rare to find explicit statements about its meaning. They put the following questions:
- "How does technology enhance learning – what is the 'value added'?"
- "What learning is being enhanced and in what ways is the enhancement quantitative and/or qualitative?"
- They consider that a more fundamental question is "whether there is a generally accepted view of what constitutes learning in higher education and of how it can be enhanced?"
